KET’s Commitment to Early Education Proves Key in Securing Significant, Long-Term Funding

KET last year announced $1.14M in grants from the James Graham Brown Foundation and the PNC Foundation, to address urgent needs in early childhood education. The Brown Foundation’s grant is the second-largest private gift in KET’s history. As part of its Grow Up Great initiative, the PNC Foundation invested an additional $325,000.

How Thomas & Friends Helps One Boy With Autism

Thomas & Friends traveled to Springfield, MA on October 9 when WGBY hosted "Buen Provecho" at Gerena Community School. With eyes rolling and steam puffing, Thomas charmed fans and was a special delight to one little boy with autism.  As the child waved and talked to Thomas, his mother shared that her son’s therapist used Thomas & Friends materials as motivation when they worked together.

On or around Mister Rogers’ March 20 birthday, a partnership between United Way Allegheny County, Fred Rogers Company, and WQED/Pittsburgh helps Fred Rogers’ work and message live on via Be My Neighbor Day. The event offers the chance for neighbors to meet neighbors and promotes a spirit of volunteerism - a natural extension of Fred Rogers’ legacy of neighborliness.

Celebrating 12 Years, WJCT’s Sweater Drive Convenes the Community to Give Back

What started as a small sweater drive to honor a PBS icon has for WJCT/Jacksonville evolved into an extensive community collaboration to build awareness and meet the immediate needs of the city’s increasing homeless population. Begun in 2002, the WJCT Mister Rogers Sweater Drive brings together local nonprofits, businesses and schools to facilitate a large-scale clothing drive around Thanksgiving.

PBS SoCal’s Mobile Lab Empowers the Community with Technology

As part of its Ready to Learn initiative, PBS SoCaL provides access to technology through its Mobile Lab. Equipped with 10 iPads and 10 Google Chrome books, the Lab offers a space for children, parents and the community to explore, learn and engage with PBS KIDS content. Children and parents can play STEM related online games and explore hands-on learning activities from their favorite shows.

KLRU and Boys & Girls Club Team Up on Digital Learning in Austin

KLRU and the Boys & Girls Club East performed an inauguration ceremony during their “Kids Day," celebrating the installment of a new digital learning center “The Demonstration Station.” It features 16 mini iPads that are jam-packed with PBS Kids content, including videos, e-books, and over 50 apps designed to improve reading, math, science, and even art skills.

Andson and Vegas PBS Partnership: Achieving Collective Impact in Summer Months

The Andson Foundation, a local foundation in Las Vegas, NV, funds teacher salaries to run literacy- and STEM-based campuses at public libraries, YMCAs and Boys and Girls Clubs during the summer.  Vegas PBS works with the Foundation as a community partner on this initiative, training the teachers, providing the supplies and books for use on campus, and performing a quality control role.
