At PBS SoCal, Success Attracting Corporate Support through PBS KIDS Sponsorships
With a staff member exclusively dedicated to developing corporate funding for PBS KIDS, PBS SoCal is finding enthusiastic support for their children’s programming and services. The station offers two PBS SoCal/PBS KIDS sponsorship packages, a partner package, which communicates sponsor support through a series of broadcast credits, and a higher-level Caregivers package which, in addition to broadcast recognition, links the sponsor to PBS KIDS and PBS SoCal through visibility at events and other PBS SoCal/PBS KIDS engagement initiatives throughout the year.
To date, PBS SoCal has secured PBS KIDS sponsorships from a variety of like-minded organizations committed to education and caring for kids, including Discovery Cube (a science center), the Natural History Museum, LA Zoo and more recently, the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).
Notably, PBS SoCal has seen such success in their PBS KIDS sponsorship packages that they are now leveraging some of the interest in their PBS KIDS packages to build General Audience sponsorship funding, as well. For example, when the station learned that category exclusivity was important to CHLA as part of their PBS KIDS sponsorship, they offered it as part of an even larger package that included CHLA sponsorship of general audience schedule as well, which the sponsor was willing to do.
